Marc Collin, Olivier Libaux,NV2 records, Singers NV2, Singers NV1, about the NV1 Records

If CAMILLE had to pick a character, she would certainly choose "MissCheeky". She was born in Paris and after studying literature and politics, she followed an unexpected trajectory, and became a singer/songwriter : " My debut album ( released on Source-Virgin) is called "Le sac des filles" ("Guess What's In Girls' Handbags" ). It is very eclectic. It combines my love for cinema and literature, and my taste for classic french chansons from the 30's and 40's, as well as Anglo-American folk music and Brazilian Bossa Nova. I like writing in French because, believe it or not, I find it such a challenge to make the lyrics sound musical. I love languages, and singing in English feels very natural to me. That's one of the reasons I enjoyed working with Nouvelle Vague. I don't know anything about punk/new wave music though - probably because I was very young at the time and because, as a child, I would listen more to the music from my parent's youth, i.e. music from the 70's. And so I recorded the tracks for Nouvelle Vague without knowing or hearing any of the original versions ! The producers just taught the songs to me. Strangely, I feel very connected to these songs, not from a generational point of view, but from an intimate point of view. I think they are universal.

SIR ALICE is one of the most anticipated solo artist ever to release material on Tigersushi. Hailing from Marc Collin

Alice’s pedigree is somewhat extraordinary with her two vocations as IRCAM music scientist and r’n’r powermonger colliding into one of the year’s most endearing soundclash. If there ever was a thin line between braindance à la Rephlex (Leila) and abrasice punk rock (Métal Urbain), she’s the one walking it with unbeknowst maestria.

At only 23, her past achievments include the usual implication with an angst-ridden guitar band as well as several compositions for art-contemporain artists –among which a variety where showcased recently in Belgium at Vooruit (see http://www.vooruit.be)- a series of portraits sonores as well as, of course, the material released on Tigersushi.
The sampler-CD of her work provided with the application form is a walkthrough through her original universe. Confrontational classic rock material (Super Hero, Bouda is a Material Girl) is featured alongside daring electronica achievments (Neural and its dazzling use of classic French tinkertoy „La Dictée Magique“). The whole showcases Alice’s ecclectic taste via songs performed in French, English and Arab.
Here live performance is based on a live PA engineered by recording studio guru Emmanuel Deruty and integrates several acting saynetes interspersed with the music

ALEX

1987 saw Alex improvising herself as a singer when some of her friends
formed a band : Rosa Luxembourg. They met Marc Collin. That was in Versailles, the city Alex would go to school. By then, there, Orange was a band giving shelter to the genuine glam of Nicolas & Jean-Benoît (from Air fame), Alex Gopher and others alike. However, the city heard Rosa Luxembourg winning a “battle of the band contest” against Orange, just before Alex would disappear into her sweet universe. Right. Stick around.

She was back in the scene with Spring, in 1993. Signed on spanish structure Elefant Records, the smooth and elegant pop of this band got them into playing many gigs with Moose, Lush and, later, supporting Pulp on their 1995 tour. the band went touring Spain but by December 1998, the story ended up. Again, Alex was out of sight... That’s when she remembered the words of the manager she had in Spring… So, she got a herself a Casio and a walkman and even though she couldn’t really play, seventeen songs did immerge out of winter, in january 1999. Next step was to make them sound larger. And she called back… Who else? Marc Collin… Tape and Exchange, a real work started from then on, until march 2000, revealing ten songs ready to be packed. Now, take theshutters down and get yourself a drink. No matter why in march 2000, all wasleft on the strand as she escaped to London. But that doesn’t really matter with Alex back now in the parisian suburb, the Lp is coming out in France in early 2003 and sounds as it was recorded the night before. So, pick up your modern magazines and step into the fabulous world of electronic melting pop that soon will come into your capitol. And never forget, when sleepy town kids are into pop, they say : “We are from… Suburbia”.

MELANIE PAIN

While growing up (and studying politic science) in Aix-en-Provence,
Southern France, Mélanie Pain got hooked on Pj Harvey, Pixies, Sonic
Youth, Nick Drake...
Once in Paris, she spends her days in a design agency and her nights
singing for electro and pop music projects.
It is with Villeneuve’s album (available in September 2004 Pias label)
that Mélanie found her right voice.
Sweet and touching with a voice midway between Astrud Gilberto and Kim
Deal, Mélanie gains attention on a few tracks for M83 or Goom's label
projects.
When Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux told her about Nouvelle Vague, she
accepted the idea without hesitating. Her version of Tainted Love with
Villeneuve was a way for her to experience the pleasure of singing cult
songs from a different generation
